NEW YORK, Feb 3, 2008 / FW/ — For Fall 2008, Mara Hoffman traveled to the Middle East, an interesting choice considering that it is on the arid region of the globe. What is more remarkable is that clothing meant for super hot temperatures were reworked to protect us from the cold of winter.
The desert headgear, usually used to limit the loss of water were turned into a combination head wrap/hat and shawl/winter scarf to ward away the cold. As a Macy’s buyer remarked, “That will sell. It’s familiar, even ethnic. It’s amazing how Mara Hoffman found a new use for it in cold climates.”
Original prints on luxe fabrics, including knitwear with original graphic designs, Mara Hoffman fluid silhouettes were balanced with slinky printed leggings. The caftan did not escape Hoffman’s attention either. It became a striped mini-skirt tunic with a sewn-in invisible belt just above the waist.
A very appealing holster-vest, that was perhaps inspired by the desert traveling bag or water container also made it to the runway.
This is Mara Hoffman’s first-ever appearance at the tents at Bryant Park, and she did not disappoint her audience who followed her from the Altman Building where she had been showing for several seasons.
