Prada Fall 2008: Lace As The Fabric of the Future

PradaMILAN, Feb 24, 2008 / FW/ — With all the smart fabrics around, and all talks about sustainability in fashion, Miuccia Prada did the unexpected and chose lace as the fabric of the future – beautiful, sustainable, pious while being erotic at the same time.

Lace – during the early half of the 20th century, women go to church covering their head and face with lace; while on the latter half of the 20th century, lace became synonymous with sexy underwear. Of course, the whole time, and up to today, lace has always been identified with luxurious clothing.

For the 21st century, lace might as well been the fabric of the future. For several seasons now, the fashion world had been waiting for the next innovation that will define the first quarter of the 2000s, the same way that the speakeasies and vaudeville defined the early 1900s.

Miuccia Prada just proposed to the whole fashion world that we do not to keep looking because we have the material all along – lace, and it has all the qualities that our modern world is looking for.
