Manish Arora Fall 2008: Galactic Amazons

Manish AroraPARIS, Feb 29, 2008 / FW/ — Indian designer Manish Arora likes his women strong. He want them to have strong personalities and also army strong as he sent out galactic amazons all decked out in warrior costumes derived either from history or sci-fi fantasy.

With facemasks straight from historical Michael Crichton novels or from George Lucas’ Star Wars, it’s Princess Leia and Queen Amidalah meet Andy Warhol at Bollywood in the starship Enterprise. The only one missing is Seven of Nine.

Yet underneath the kitschy fluorescent colors are some clothes that are truly wearable. Though Manish Arora had not reached yet John Galliano’s level of teasing his audience with a treasure hunt on the runway, the Indian designer is off to a good start.

Only on his sophomore season here in Paris, Manish Arora had already created a buzz on his label and had garnered quite a number of fans.
