Jayson Brunsdon Fall 2008: Retro-Futuristic Glamour

NEW YORK, Apr 27, 2008/ FW/ — Perhaps, we do live in 24-hour pop culture of television, cinema, the Internet and video games; that sci-fi / fantasy and glamour are all mixed into our consciousness and become part of our reality with the gizmos we own and the clothes we wear. Australian designer Jayson Brunsdon’s unique take on glamour has a very retro-futuristic feel that makes it so familiar yet so refreshing at the same time.

Bias cut mini dresses with heart-shaped bodices and traveling capes that are molded to look like tents; Brunsdon took classic shapes and reworked them to give them cleaner and sharper silhouettes. You almost believe that there is a lady in distress, but she turns out to be Lara Croft, a video game heroine who can actually take care of herself.

It is not a collection about strong women. Rather, Jayson Brunsdon pulled together elements from our pop culture and used them as catalysts for this engaging collection. From the hourglass figures of the gowns, to the sultry mini cocktail dresses paired with a bowler’s hat and the black & white wingtip shoes, if Brunsdon was not a master of craft, these elements would have fallen flat.

But, the Australian designer knew what he was doing, hence the result – an endearing and highly covetable collection that his fans could hardly wait for Fall 2008 to roll around so that they can start wearing it.
