Parisian footwear label both launched a capsule collection with the LA-based menswear brand Second Layer including clothing, accessories and footwear during Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 season.
The “both x Second Layer” collaboration also includes a capsule collection composed of workwear coats, jackets, sweatshirts, t-shirts and caps.
In addition to this collaboration, both presented their new AW20 Collection, LA NUIT.
For the 2020 Autumn/Winter season, contemporary footwear label turns its eyes back to the streets of Paris, home to BOTH’s creative and design center.
Inspired by the real of Parisian life, the city’s alternative culture, style and musical landscape have always been a source of inspiration for the label.
Paris, a city of conflicts, contrasts, paradoxes and a melting pot of multicultural inspiration. From its clubs, underground parties and the city’s ever-so-mesmerizing lights, the brand revisits and reimagines the French capital’s “side B”, and created a modern-day ode to the city, with a refreshed perspective and zeitgeist.
A reinvented “glows in the dark” rubber and coloring material is utilized in the 2020 Autumn/Winter collection. The Parisian night vibe is also translated into a specially created graphic by Belgian artist Tom Tosseyn, who is known for his underground party poster designs and his graphic work for
various luxury and high-fashion labels alike.
The sneaker models with the graphic feature a unique Italian made lenticular base, giving it a 3D effect in reminiscent of 90s club kid shoes and also pays homage to hologram playing cards from the end of last century.
Graffiti on the streets of Paris is another key visual inspiration that transcends in the collection. As a symbol of youthful expression and the current wave of social uprising in the city, BOTH’s creative teams printed the graffiti on a brand new cement-textured rubber material for a literal yet innovative
presentation.
The Parisian journey is continued with denim. Originally a fabric from the French city of Nîmes, denim has become an essential element for the Parisian style of today. The collection also brings together an unwashed raw denim typical in the navy blue Parisian uniform, and immersed together with BOTH’s iconic rubber fusing techniques.
In the 2020 A/W collection, both reimagined some of the classic Parisian footwear models and further expanded the brand’s caliber in styles. A new rubber-dipped classic loafer style is introduced together with a GAO Runner inspired women’s heel, giving classic styles a “BOTH” twist.
Thigh high rubber biker boots with customized buckles are some of the standout pieces. A brand new deconstructed Tyres model as well as platform versions of BOTH’s signature styles are added to the classic line for more playful and genderless twists.
Additionally, both is also announcing a global exclusive collaboration with Los Angeles based label SECOND/LAYER. Rooted in founder Ants De Padovane, Jacob and Joshua Willis’ Southern Californian upbringing street, surf and skate cultures, SECOND/LAYER believes in creating effortless and authentic West Coast “tailor made daily-wear”.
With the special logo “二” (Chinese character for “two/both/second”) in mind, the two labels joined
forces in celebrating the concept of “modern day team work”. Inspired by BOTH’s factory workwear, the collection reinvents the traditional production line and emphasizes the input of ideas and efforts from each party involved in the creation process, putting the “crew” spirit at the very centre.
The collaboration melts SECOND/LAYER’s famed tailoring and design sensibility with BOTH’s ever-moving experimental spirit and contemporary vision towards global culture.
For this special occasion, Polaroid partnered with the brands in order to create a double exposure photo booth for the guest to immortalize this moment.
