NEW YORK, Oct 20, 2011/ — What happens when you combine the minds of international pop and fashion icon Lady Gaga, creative director and stylist Nicola Formichetti, and respected jewelry designer Rodrigo Otazu? Anything!
Creative visionary and the force behind the outrageous “House of Gaga”, Nicola Formichetti, and Rodrigo Otazu collaborated with designer Theirry Mugler on a short film that served as the backdrop for Mugler’s Paris Fashion Week runway presentation.
Rodrigo Otazu created custom pieces for Nicola Formichetti’s live action fashion editorial, which was shot by famed photographers Inez Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.
The film featured their muse, Lady Gaga, donning elaborate and provocative designs in a sub-Saharan-like futuristic wasteland. Large pectoral necklaces and African tribal jewelry, with Rodrigo’s signature ornate use of Swarovski crystals and modern metallic adornments, were the focal point of the film.
Rodrigo Otazu is a self-taught jewelry designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is currently based out of New York City. In addition to numerous collaborations with Lady Gaga, iconic powerful women such as Madonna, Grace Jones, and most recently Mary J. Blige have worn his designs; also his jewelry was featured in the film Sex in the City 2.
