DALLAS, Dec 19, 2012/ FW/ — For those who watched the telecast of the Miss Universe contest, then you already know by now that Miss USA, Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012.
But, do you know that the 20-year-old Rhode Island native was wearing a Georges Hobeika creation? The beautiful raspberry, velvet and muslin ball gown is from the Georges Hobeika Fall/Winter 2012-2013 couture collection.
The gown was handpicked by Miss Culpo herself and she wore it during the Evening Gown segment of the competition. Thanks to Alisha Crutchfield, Fashion Director of the Miss Universe Organization and personal stylist for Miss USA, Miss Culpo was introduced to the talent of Georges Hobeika and decided to step outside the pageant ‘style’ box wearing a dress that made a winning statement.
“We wanted Miss USA to stand out from the 88 Miss Universe competitors and to break the mold, so to speak, of the typical pageant evening gown look. I have always loved Georges Hobeika’s creations and believed he was the designer who could dress Olivia to win,” says Alisha Crutchfield.
Olivia Culpo bested 88 other women to win the crown. And for those who are keeping score, it was in 1997 that Miss USA last won the crown. Miss Culpo is the 61st Miss Universe.
