LOS ANGELES, Dec 24, 2007 / FW/ — One great thing about the Christmas holidays is that I can finally get caught up with all the DVDs that came out. And though I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on IMAX while I was attending New York Fashion Week, as a Harry Potter fan, I cannot help myself but buy the DVD version also when it came out early this month.
Seeing the movie for the second time, my fashion journalist’s eyes finally caught that in this darker movie of Harry Potter, pink rules, literally! Dolores Umbrage, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Magic was always wearing pink, and if I may say so, all her clothes are based on the classic Chanel suit!
When all the professors were all wearing black togas, Dolores Umbrage’s pink outfits really stood out. Perhaps Elle Woods has a point in insisting on pink.
In the real world, pink has always been associated with femininity and women. In fact, most websites catering to women usually has a touch of pink in it. It is also a ‘happy color’.
Of course, those who have watched Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix know that Dolores Umbrage is the ‘baddie’ in the movie. Nevertheless, as a character, she cut an imposing figure both literally and figuratively. And, if I may say so, she did look good in pink.
Oh, just a final note to Harry Potter fans; if you can catch the movie on IMAX, please do so. There is a portion in the movie in 3-D on IMAX and it truly adds to the experience!
