NEW YORK, Sep 21, 2010 / — Ann Ziff, jewelry designer and cultural philanthropist, celebrated the opening of the new boutique showcasing her jewelry collection Tamsen Z.
The collection features one-of-a-kind, handmade pieces crafted from rare materials such as colored diamonds, meteorites, fire opals and pre-Columbian gold figures.
Ziff was joined by actor Chris Meloni, opera star Renée Fleming, designers Carmen Marc Valvo and Angel Sanchez, and prominent New York figures Ivanka Trump, Tamara Mellon, Shoshanna Gruss, Amy Fine Collins, Marjorie Gubelmann, Fabiola Beracasa, Lauren Remington Platt, Roopal Patel, Yaz Hernandez, Peter Gelb, Barbara de Portago, Cornelia Guest, Sally Wu, Wendi Murdoch, Christian Leone, Freddie Leiba, Pamela Fiori, Gillian Miniter, and Blair Husain.
Guests were treated to a personal tour of the boutique by Ziff, whose passion for gemology developed at a young age. As a child, Ziff was fascinated by the elaborate costume jewelry worn by her mother, American soprano Harriet Henders, and began creating beaded headpieces and necklaces. What began as a childhood interest soon evolved into a lifelong passion for collecting some of the world’s rarest gemstones, which she incorporates into a unique collection of necklaces, rings, earrings and brooches.
Ann’s mother also instilled in her a passion for opera which is reflected in the design of the Tamsen Z boutique. To illuminate the space, Ziff commissioned J. & L. Lobmeyr, the celebrated Austrian crystal firm, to recreate the iconic chandeliers and sconces that the firm crafted for the Metropolitan Opera house.
The Tamsen Z boutique is located at 783 Madison Avenue and can be reached at (212) 360-7840.
